Maria Castro

Maria Castro has worked in France and the UK as a freelance sound designer/composer for film, video art and documentary. Her principal research interests lie in the interaction between music, sound and the moving image, and more specifically the creative use of sound in film. Maria is particularly attracted to independent and World cinema, and non-conventional approaches to film sound and music. She had artistic projects with the London Film School, Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design, CinéArchives, AudioArchitecture, italian visual artist Francesco Arena, and norwegian improvisers Are Kolbeinsen and Terje Evensen. Her work has been screened at international festivals and exhibitions in the UK, Canada, Germany, Italy, France, United States, Portugal, and China. In 2004 she was one of the three finalists of the VW Score Competition for sound designers and composers at the Berlinale Talent Campus.
