Christopher Fox

Christopher Fox is a Senior Lecturer in Composition at the University of Huddersfield. He has worked with many of the leading new music ensembles and soloists, including the Arditti Quartet, Arraymusic, Anthony de Mare, Roger Heaton, Philip Mead and the late Yvar Mikhashoff. Most recently he has established a close relationship with the brilliant young Dutch musicians of the Ives Ensemble who have featured his work in each of their last four seasons and premiered a substantial new work, Theme and Variations, in Amsterdam in February 1996. His work regularly extends beyond the conventional boundaries of the concert hall and include the radio piece Three Constructions after Kurt Schwmers, commissioned by the BBC in 1993 and nominated for the Prix Italia Gallery installations in collaboration with video artists and printmakers and a 'musical box' made with the poet lan Duhig. Current projects include music for flute and prepared piano, to be premiered in May by London New Music, and a new radio work, Alarmed and Dangerous, commissioned by the BBC for broadcast on Radio 3 in October. Paul Griffiths, writing in The Times, has said of Fox's work that 'he takes simple ideas but he makes them sound quite wonderful'.
